Allsorts Challenge #646

Hi everyone,

It's Saturday so it's time for another weekly Allsorts Challenge. This week Brenda has chosen the theme and it is

Anything Autumn

This week we have 2 fantastic prizes for you:

Firstly a stamp from Lavinia Stamps

and

Tim Holtz On the Edge Pennants die

Here’s my card.

I struggled a bit with this theme as I don’t really own much in the way of dedicated “autumn” stash, so I had to get a bit creative. I decided to make a scene in autumn colours centred around the nearest thing I have to a bare branch tree stamp, and to make an autumnal sky by blending some of my new DO inks and using a mask and hone made stencils for the sun and hills. I then over stamped and embossed my tree, hedgerow flowers and butterflies, mounted the scene simply and added a generic sentiment that I thought suited the general atmosphere of the card.

Stamps: tree - Penny Black “Fantasy” (3880K); hedgerow flowers and butterflies - “Meadow Flowers” free with Cardmaking magazine; sentiment - LotV “Everyday Grungy Messages”;
Media: Tim Holtz Distress Inks and Distress Oxide Inks;
Paper and twine from my stash.

Challenges I would like to enter:

(I was inspired by colours orange and brown, and tree)

Hope you can join us this week, and I look forward to seeing your entries. Don't forget to visit the challenge blog to see more inspiration from the rest of the team. Thanks for visiting.

One stamp, two ways

On Saturday I shared my first DT card for Allsorts Challenge which used the gorgeous Woodware Stamp "Bold  Blooms - Erica".  Today I would like to show you the same stamp but with a totally different "look": I have now received my new stencils, so I have made my first attempt at a card using both a full-on distress oxide background, masking and stencilling - woo hoo! Having just cottoned on to DO's, stencils and masking after my time away from crafting I am full of ideas and this stamp is pretty much ideal to use with a lot of them!

I stamped my image and coloured it using Promarkers, then masked the image so I could create my background by blending DO's with a mini blending tool, followed by a bit of spritzing and heat setting. I then stencilled using Versamark and brushed with Perfect Pearls .. I absolutely love the effect of this! It being a miserable autumn day it wasn't easy to capture the sheen, so I took a pic in electric light. The stencilling is actually very twinkly!

After setting the Perfect Pearls with more water spritzing, I added some shadow stamping to the corners using a crackle stamp and normal distress ink, and created 1 or 2 random rings by dabbing a pen top into my distress ink pad and then using it to stamp!

Simple mounting on metallic card, sentiment, twine and a couple of teeny gems and I was done. Once again though this took a long time as I am still in experimental mode. I am absolutely thrilled with this new crafting direction though and can't wait to continue.

Stamps: Main image and sentiment - Woodware "Bold Blooms - Erica"; crackle shadow stamp - Butterfly Kisses clear set;
Media: Image - Promarkers; backgroundTH Distress Oxide inks - Spiced Marmalade, Cracked Pistachio, Twisted Citron; TH Distress ink - Tea Dye;  stencilling - Perfect Pearls - Copper;
Paper: LotV;
Tools: Darkroom Door small stencil - Honeycomb; Dragon Crafts masking sheets;
Twine, button and gems from my stash.

Challenges I would like to enter:

Sparkles #144 - Autumn Colours
Through the Craft Room Door - Anything Goes (2nd entry)

So that's me done for today ... I had hoped to make two cards but somehow time ran away with me. Thanks very much for visiting and take care.

Paper Piecing - A Challenge for Kath

Hi everyone,

Last week when I had my experimental “inky playtime” with distress inks I actually made two splattered background panels … the first I used for a birthday card here, and I put the second aside as I wasn’t quite sure what to do with it. However when I saw this week’s challenge at Allsorts, I knew exactly what I wanted to do.

The lovely ladies at Allsorts have this week a Challenge for Kath - in memory of their friend and fellow team member who has sadly recently passed away. Having just come back to crafting and blogging in the past couple of months after doing none for the past three years (and to be honest very little since 2015 when my dad passed away), I didn’t know Kath; but I have been moved by how her crafty friends have pulled together to honour her memory with a challenge on her favourite themes, and even generously donated prizes themselves for the challenge winners … so it seemed only right to join in.❤️ So here it is.

The challenge theme is Favourite stamps with the option of paper piecing. I only have a limited number of stamps that are suitable for paper piecing and it isn’t something I do very often as I’m so cack-handed with the scissors, but I had a beautiful piece of abstract patterned glittery DP in my stash in the same colour scheme as my previously splattered background, so I thought I’d give it a go.  Also Penny Black stamps were my first love when I first started cardmaking, so that also ties in with “favourite stamps”.

 I stamped my flowers onto my inky background, then again onto the glittery DP and fussy cut the main flower heads. I did a little text shadow stamping onto the inky panel before adhering my paper pieces, then mounted the panel onto some glimmery card stock. I then adhered the lot onto a larger piece of my DP, attached some twine and a heart shaped button, and attached to my card base. Quick sentiment and again the job was done.

Even though this is a simple card it was not without its challenges. I have been away for this weekend and I took with me a mini craft tote to enable me to do a bit of basic crafting and/or colouring … but this included only 1 DP and wood mounted stamp (for this card),  a couple of clear stamp sets, very few ink pads and NO dies or die cutting machine.  Part way through making this card I realised I had no acrylic block to stamp my clear stamp sentiment (doh!) so I had to mount it on the top edge of a wooden stamp, stamp and pray! Let’s just say it took quite a few attempts before I was reasonably satisfied😀

Stamps: flowers - Penny Black “Whispers” (3377K); text shadow stamp - Butterfly kisses clear set; sentiment - unknown;
Media: Tim Holtz distress inks - Scattered Straw and Dried Marigold (spattered background).

Challenges I would like to enter:

A Perfect Time to Craft (September) Anything Goes (2nd entry)
Allsorts #641 - A Challenge for Kath - Favourite Stamps with option of Paper Piecing
Colour Hues (September) - Yellow and Orange
Creative Moments #222 - Anything Goes
Simon Says (Monday) - Stamp It! (2nd entry)
Simon Says (Wednesday) - Sparkle and Shine
Sweet Stampin’Colours of Autumn

That’s all from me for today - take care, and thanks for visiting.

Summer flowers

Today I have a fairly simple card to show you ... I needed a birthday card to put in the post, and found an image in my stash which I stamped and coloured many moons ago .... so that was the basis for my card and it all went from there!

I thought with my image already stamped and coloured this would be a quick card but I was sadly mistaken ... it seems to take forever to get set up, find the papers and embellishments I want, decide what to do ... and today it was exacerbated because I couldn't remember how to use my Martha Stewart Punch Around the Page so had to look up the correct paper sizes!! it all came together in the end though after a few failed attempts with the punch!

I have also found my old watermark signature, and spent a bit of time looking up and experimenting with how to put it on my photos as that memory was well lost in the mists of time ... but I seem to have got there!

Stamps: Main image - LotV; Sentiment- Penny Black clear set "Salutations"; tag sentiments - LotV "tiny tags";
Media: Promarkers and Flexmarkers;
Tools: Tattered Lace "Cute Critters" dragonfly die; Martha Stewart “Wildflowers” Punch Around the Page;
Paper, ribbon and gems from my stash.

Challenges I would like to enter:

Corrosive #8 Anything Goes (2nd entry)
Crafty Calendar (August) - Anything Goes (2nd entry)
Crafty Creations #424 - Anything Goes (2nd entry)
Cute Card Thursday #691 - Anything Goes (3rd entry)
Incy Wincy Card Tutorial and/or animal
(I chose the easy option of an animal!)
Moving Along With The Times #133 Summer Fun or Summer Colours (yellow/orange)
Passion For Markers #605 - Add A Tag - TOP 5
Penny's Challenge #503 - Anything Goes with paper
Simon Says (Wednesday) - Add A Sentiment
Sweet Stampin' - Feature an Animal

That's all for today, have a nice weekend and thanks for visiting.

Warm Autumn Teddy

Hi everyone, hope you are enjoying your weekend. I have been catching up with some DT work, but I also found the time to make a card for the numerous Autumn-themed challenges that are around right now. As I said when I posted a couple of autumn cards a fortnight ago, this is really out of my comfort zone as I never normally craft with autumnal shades. Last week though, I sent off to LotV for the sentiments to go with the new geisha scroll; and I thought that the stamp might get lonely on its own in the envelope so I also ordered this adorable teddy stamp to go with it :-). I thought straight away that I may be able to make this stamp work with autumnal colours ... so here's the result.

 I also knew I had some yummy orangey-gold and brown shimmery foil flowers in a little tub ... I craft in my dining room, and some time ago I placed the tub on top of a heavy waist-high bookcase and it fell down the back. Well,today just had to be the day that I asked my husband to pull all the books off the shelves to retrieve the packet!

I'm also having a bit of a moment with floppy scrunchy bows. I saw an online tutorial somewhere (sorry I can't remember where to give a credit) about twisting the ribbon into several loops, so I've had a few goes. The results are a little eccentric looking, but luckily I think that's half the point! I topped this one with a little wooden flower button from my stash.

Stamps: LotV "Patchwork bear" and sentiment circle;
Media: Promarkers and Flexmarkers;
Papers: mixture of My Mind's Eye, Robin's Nest and Dovecraft;
Supplies: pearls, pearl brad and antique gold spacer from The Hobby House; ribbon, button and flowers from my stash;
Tools: large classic square and Fleur-de-Lys square nestabilities; Leone Em "Ash Family" leaf punch.

Challenges:
Pretty Little Ribbon #15 - Autumn Colours (max 11 challenges)
I ♥ ProMarkers #137 - Autumn Colours
Crafty Creations #190 - Colours of Autumn
Dutch Dare #185 - Fall Is In The Air
DYSU #92 - Warm Colours
Cute Card Thursday #237 - Lotsa Ribbon!
Stamptacular #184 - Photo Inspiration

Need to go and get my dinner now before sitting down to the X-Factor results and Downton Abbey - lovin' the new autumn TV schedules but they really do eat into my crafting time lol!

Away With The Fairies (2) - Things With Wings

Good afternoon everyone - after my exciting news this morning about becoming a Lili's Little Fairy ( see here), I got quite carried away with the idea of fairies, and decided to make a couple of fairy cards.  I haven't actually done any crafting for a fortnight what with work and then going away on holiday, so I thought I needed to get a bit of practice in colouring :-) Bizarrely though I didn't choose one of my beloved LotV fairy images for this task - the reason being that I wanted to make cards for some autumnal challenges, and I thought this gorgeous Whimsy stamp by Sylvie Zet would best fit the bill. Also  I wanted to get some practice at colouring hair which I always find a bit of a challenge ... and the fairy on this stamp has certainly got a good head of hair to colour !!

Today's post could equally be called one image, two ways, as I have made two cards using the same stamp - the colours are also similar, but the style of the two cards is quite different. Both are quite outside of my comfort zone, as I never normally use these colour schemes.

First up is a CAS card which I made to highlight the use of autumnal colours.

Stamp: Whimsy set by Sylvie Zet (free with Papercraft Essentials magazine);
Sentiment: Pink Petticoat (digi);
Media: Promarkers and Flexmarkers;
Supplies: pearls from The Hobby House.

Challenges:
Passion For Promarkers #167 - Clean and Simple
Stamptacular Sunday #181 - Less Is More
Paper Pretties Wednesday #224 - No Patterned Paper
Without Words #1 - Autumn (CAS Card)
Papertake Weekly - A Hazy Shade of Autumn
Crafty Pad #188 - Autumn Colours
Addicted To Stamps #39 - Autumn Colours
Colour Me Creative #52 - Autumn Colours
Paper Shelter #82 - Autumn Colours
Crafty Catz #150 - Brown & Orange
Crazy 4 Challenges #154 - Anything Goes with a Fall Twist
Sparkles #36 - Away With The Fairies
Fab 'n' Funky #139 - Things With Wings
Crafting For All Seasons #36 - Things With Wings
Creative Craft - Anything Goes
Whimsy #51 - Anything Goes

Secondly I made a bit fancier card for three challenges:

Stamps: Whimsy fairy as before; Whimsy "Friendship Ticket" stamp; See-D birthday sentiment;
Media: Promarkers and Flexmarkers;
Papers: Prima "Botanicals";
Supplies: flowers and seam binding from Wild Orchid Crafts; pearls from The Hobby House; lace from my stash;
Tools: Leone Em "Ash Branch" leaf punch.

Challenges:
Crafty Calendar (September) - Browns & Creams
Wild Orchid Crafts # 59 - Autumn Colours

Rightee - that really is all now from me for today - though I hope to get some more crafting in before I go back to work on Monday :-)
Hugs
