Oldie But A Goodie #26 - Lots of Sparkle!
Sunday, 16 January 2011
Hello baby!

I rarely have the need to make baby cards, but I made a couple last week for "New Beginnings" challenges - one for a girl and one for a boy. No sooner done than a colleague's wife had a baby girl, and next minute another colleague asked me if I could make a card for another baby girl ... I was actually quite thrilled as I don't very often get asked to make one.
So here's another card for a baby girl - my second within two weeks!

Recipe:
Main image: Penny Black "Basket of Joy (2075F), coloured with Promarkers;
Sentiment: LotV sentiment circles;
Papers: checked paper by Deja Views; glitter dots card from local craft shop;
Supplies: wild rose and cherry blossoms from Wild Orchid Crafts edged with Stickles; blossom stems from local craft shop; ribbon-threaded lace from my recent winning prize pack from An Oldie But a Goodie Challenge;
Tools: large, small and lacy circles nestabilities; Martha Stewart "eyelet lace" PATP.

Normally when I send cards that have raised elements such as flowers, I put them in a padded envelope (top tip - Wilkinsons padded white CD mailers - decent looking and 70p for four!!) ... but in this case I didn't feel it would be appropriate to provide a padded envelope to the girl who is giving this card as it would rather spoil the ambience. So I got a bit carried away and made a box for the card :-)
I made the base from normal white linen cardstock, and the lid from the same pearlescent pink bazzill that I had used for matting the image on the card. I told myself I wasn't going to spend too long decorating it, but came up with the quick but (I hope) effective idea of plonking a fancy tag on the top ready to write the baby's name and date of birth. This also had the added advantage of allowing me to use my brand new "Magnolia vintage" tag which I have been itching to do for the past couple of days :-)

I would like to enter this card for the following challenges:

Crafty Creations #101 - New Beginnings

I have also used (and flipped) the sketch for January's Crafters' Companion Challenge #8 for a second time - not sure if two entries are allowed but I'm giving it a go :-)

red, white and blue
Don't forget the challenge rule that you must use a Penny Black image, large sentiment or sticker as the focus of your project to be eligible to win a prize - and please no backlinking ... you are welcome to combine our challenge with others, but only new work please!
Do check out the rest of the DT's creations as they have truly been waving their star spangled banners of talent !! Here's my red, white and blue creation....
This wasn't very easy for me as the truth is I hate the colour red, and i could only think of one blue paper in my stash that might sit well with red. However I soon got into the swing of it .. who could possibly resist red roses lol?? I can never resist inking up this cute hedgie and I do love popping a little paper rose on her hat. I also used another of the yummy ribbon samples supplied to the DT by Fantastic Ribbons.I also had a slight drama as I originally intended punching 3 strips of red, white and blue card using my doily lace punch ... but for some reason it wouldn't punch cardstock suddenly - OMG!! It would punch through paper, but when I tried with card it just wasn't haviong any! That's a problem for another day, but in the meantime I improvised by punching with my valentine lace punch instead, and in the end I was actually quite pleased with the effect - a happy accident you might say lol!

I had a slight panic over this, as I didn't have any papers which would successfully pull all three colours together .... although I've got a 6*6 "Two Scoops" pad, the paper I have used for the background is all gone ... so in the end I just had to buy a single piece of 12 * 12. Why the panic about that??? I hear you ask. Well ... Lent started on Wednesday ... and I discovered I needed this piece of paper on ... er ... Thursday morning lol!! So I just brazened it out and bought it as an "essential" .. but I'm now probably in the doghouse rofl! It's going to be a tough 6 weeks tee hee!
I'm really loving my newish MS border punch .. it really makes me think of a white picket fence and I can't help but decorate it every time with butterflies and flowers :-) Hope it gives an impression of spring!

I always struggle with Valentine's as my husband doesn't like the colour red, and I can hardly make him a card with pink hearts on it, can I lol!!??!! I already knew I was going to use this darling image which was an RAK from my fab friend Squirrel, and as I cast around amongst my papers I suddenly spotted this BG "Porcelain" sheet and decided to go for green with red accents ... like the green tree with li'l red hearts growing on it ...aww! I kept the card reasonably unfussy as it is for a man.I would also like to enter this card into the following challenges:

Cute hedgie does the Christmas combo!
I have been on holiday from work this past week, but due to the schedule of jobs I'd set for myself, yesterday afternoon was the first time I managed to sit down for a good crafty session. I stamped out a few of this adorable PB image "fur collared" and made a few cards for various challenges, so you will be seeing more of this cute little fella over the next couple of days ....Here's my first card:
I have followed the sketch for this week's Corrosive Challenges #41
This card also fits a number of other Christmas challenges, namely
My Time to Craft #69 - Christmas Foliage
Everybody-Art-Challenge #69 - green & red
Stamp with Stampavie #73 - red & green
Charisma #49 - green & red plus white or silver
The Pink Elephant #44 - Your favourite Christmas colour combo. Well mine is generally whatever I happen to be doing right now ... and at the moment green & red seems to be right up there lol!
Recipe:
Main image: Penny Black "fur collared" (3763H) coloured with watercolour pencils, and decorated with polar white flowersoft and glamour dust;
Sentiment; Stampendous;
Paper: Reminisce "Snowflake Spots";
Supplies: Flowers by Floradoodles; gems from my stash;
Tools: scalloped rectangle nestabilities; Cuttelbug "Snowflakes" embossing folder.
Here's my second card. I have deliberately made this card for just the one challenge as they don't allow us to combine - it is for this week's Stamptacular Challenge #36 which is Let it shine. I have got sparkle on the fluffy fur, holographic silver card on my matting, shiny silver snowflakes on the ribbon, and sparkkly gems in the flowers.

Recipe:
Main image - as before;
Sentiment: Stamps Away;
Paper: from stash;
Supplies: Snowflake ribbon from Warrington market; flowers by Floradoodle;
Tools: scalloped rectangle nestabilities.
Back tomorrow with a couple more of these cuties :-)

Hats on for a green and red Christmas!
I'm back again with the second card from my craft session. I really do adore this Forever Friends teddy stamp - it is just soooo dinky and cute, and when I saw that this week's Saturday Spotlight Challenge (SSHP09) is Hats On!, it was the perfect opportunity to ink up the little fella!
I also followed the sketch from Creative inspirations #22
... and picked the colours red and green for this week's Corrosive Challenges #40, Cupcake Craft Challenge #68 and Incy Wincy #20.Finally, Kraftin' Kimmie's Challenge #8 is Touchy-Feely ... asking us this week to use textures. I liberally sprinkled around my fave product of the moment - polar white Flowersoft mixed with glamour dust. Hopefully the following pic highlights the texture and dimension it adds to the card :-)
