Believe In the Magic

Hi everyone,

I needed to post the “Four Seasons” bookmarks  that I had made as a small Christmas gift to a good friend, and I decided that I needed a mini gift card to write a message in to accompany them in their padded envelope… so here it is.

This card is just 4” square. .. I have never made such a dinky card before and I rather liked working in such a small space.  I sponged a circle with Distress Oxide inks working inwards from darkest colour to the lightest, then bleached out some colour with spattered water droplets. I stamped my tree and fairy using Versafine Clair, and added some stars as if she is sprinkling stardust over the tree … which in my imagination results in the creation of a silver holographic star on top of the tree. I added a few more stars around the edge using Brilliance pearlescent ink, stamped my sentiment and finished off with some Sakura Stardust pen highlights and a few gems. Fairly quick by my standards, but I’m pleased with how it turned out.

Here's a close up to show the sparkle.

Stamps: Lavinia Fir Tree 1, Stars 1 Mini; Fairy and sentiment from Crafter’s Companion “Fairy Kisses” set;
Media:Tim Holtz Distress Oxide inks (Chipped Sapphire, Salty Ocean Tumbled Glass); Versafine Clair - Twilight; Brilliance Pearlescent ink - ?; Sakura Gelly roll pen - Stardust;
Holographic star peel off and gems from my stash.

So I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas - hope you all stay safe, and  that we can look forward to a better 2022.

Good morning everyone,

It's Saturday so it's time for another weekly Allsorts Challenge. This week Lolo has chosen the theme and it is

Anything Winter

Due to the Christmas break this will be a two week challenge and the last challenge for 2021 - due to the New Year the challenge will close at 12 noon (GMT) on Thursday 30 December  and the winner will be announced later that day. We will be back with the first challenge of next year on Saturday 1 January 2022. 😀

I actually made this card about a month ago in my first flush of enthusiasm for Lavinia stamps, before the Christmas panic set in!! I created my hills and moon with home made paper masks (before my Lavinia acetate masks arrived!) and blending distress oxide inks. I then stamped my trees and border branches, embossing  some of my branches with white detail EP, and highlighted the scene with my trusty Sakura sparkle pen.

Stamps: Lavinia Small Fairy Fir Tree 2, Fir Cone Branch, Fern Branch, Stars 1 Mini; sentiment - Stampendous;
Media: Tim Holtz Distress oxide inks (Chipped Sapphire, Salty Ocean, Tumbled Glass); Versafine Clair (Twilight), Versamark, Heat It Up Detail White embossing powder.

Cold and Snowy Christmas Night

Hi everyone , hope you are well, warm and dry in the awful weather we're having again with Storm Barra. Today I would like to share my latest Christmas card using Lavinia stamps.

I am still experimenting with placing my limited selection of tree stamps in snowy landscapes … for this one I tried a larger moon mask than previously, and experimented with using different colour inks for background and foreground stamping to create more depth. I also had another practice at snow splattering with my white Posca pen … my technique is getting a bit better but it still really needs practice! Also I had a bit of an accident with my sentiment - I was a bit tired of using the same Chrimbo sentiments so fished another one out of my stash which is a mounted rubber stamp ... and despite carefully cleaning the edges of the stamp after inking it deposited an ink splodge on my snow (grrr!!)!! Hence the perhaps strangely placed mini pine cone, and another at the other side to balance it out!!

Stamps: Lavinia “Fir Tree 1”, “Small Fairy Fir Tree”, “Small Fairy Fir Tree 2”, "Mini Pine Cone",“Winter Magic”; sentiment - Crafter's Companion "Beary Merry Christmas";
Media: Tim Holtz Distress Oxide inks - Chipped Sapphire, Salty Ocean, Stormy Sky; Versafine Clair Twilight and Morning Mist; Sakura Gelly roll pen - Stardust; white Posca pen;
Tools: Lavinia moon and hill acetate masks.

Challenges I would like to enter:

As You Like It - Favourite Christmas Embellishment and Why
( I love all sparkly things, but particularly my new Sakura sparkle pen which is brilliant for embellishing moons, trees and snowdrifts)
Classic Design Challenge (December) - Anything Goes (2nd entry)
Country View Challenge (December) - Anything Christmas Goes (3rd entry)
Crafter’s Castle #48 - Anything Goes
Creatalicious #224 - Anything Goes with option of Christmas (2nd entry)
Simon Says (Wednesday) - Happy Holidays / Christmas (3rd entry)
Stamping Sensations (December) - Choose a Theme and Stamp It
(I have chosen Christmas)
Winter Wonderland - Anything Christmas Goes

Hope your Christmas preparations are on track … I’m getting in pretty well with the cards now, though I’ve hardly done any Christmas shopping yet. I feel a quick online blitz coming on! Take care, and thanks for visiting.

Snowy firs

Well here we are ... December already!! How are your Christmas cards coming along?? I'm still in feverish preparation mode, though no longer quite in "total panic" ... but I daren't take my eye off the ball!!

Today I would like to share a couple of CAS Christmas card I have made recently ... in fact I have made a couple of batches of cards very similar to these, around 8 cards in total.

The general concept of stamping fir trees onto an inked panel in the middle of white space was inspired by a card I saw by Elizabeth Arden on Pinterest here .. I have adapted the idea by using a different combo of stamps, and different colours of ink on my background which is a deckle rectangle rather than a normal square.

For my first card I cut a deckle rectangle mask using my nestie dies, then used it to make a Distress Oxide panel which I spattered with water. I then stamped my trees using Versafine, and my star using Versamark and embossing with detail white EP. I added a sentiment and three teeny gems to mirror the colour grading on my inked panel, and matted simply on dusky blue glitter card.

My second card is very similar except that instead of spattering water onto my inked background I had my first go with my new white Posca pen to create snowflakes. I actually tried this technique on 4 cards and this was the best one .. I need to practice to get smaller spots!!

Stamps: Lavinia “Fairy Fir Tree 2”, “Small Fairy Fir Tree”, “Small Fairy Fir Tree 2”, “North Star Mini”; sentiment - Stampendous (card 1), Elzybells (card 2);
Media: Tim Holtz Distress Oxide inks - Chipped Sapphire, Stormy Sky, Tumbled Glass, Iced Spruce; Heat It Up detail white EP; Posca white pen;
Tools: Spellbinders nestabilities "Deckle rectangles"; corner punch;
Glitter card and gems from my stash.

Challenges I would like to enter:

Allsorts Challenge #652

Good morning everyone, hope you are all safe and well after last night’s horrendous winds … my husband is currently out in the back garden inspecting some smashed fence panels !!

The weekend is here again, so it's time for another weekly Allsorts Challenge. This week Brenda has chosen the theme and it is

Anything Goes with a Hand Stamped or Digital Image

So we just need to see any image as the focal point of your project this week … pretty easy we hope 😀

This week we have 2 gorgeous prizes on offer:

2 Bee Crafty Border stamps

and

is offering 3 images of the winner's choice.

My card this week allowed me to play with my new Lavinia Christmas stamps and masks the same day as they arrived, so it is a bit of an experiment, but I’m very pleased with how it turned out.

I used my new hill masks to blend inks for my hills,  then a circle mask to create my moon and sky with Distress Oxides. I stamped my reindeer and trees using various shades of Versafine and Versafine Clair to give a bit of dimension, and  using a mask to create the small trees in the background from the top of my small fairy fir. I used my circle mask negative to stamp my wording over the moon, stamped some berries round the edges and a sentiment, and highlighted the moon and trees with my Sparkle pen. Finally I spattered the whole panel with white acrylic paint to create snowflakes. It was my first time trying spattering with white acrylic paint and it wasn’t altogether successful … pretty uncontrolled and VERY messy .. now thinking about getting a Posca pen to try 😀

Stamps: Lavinia “Large Reindeer”, “Fairy Fir Tree 2”, “Small Fairy Fir Tree”, “Small Fairy Fir Tree 2”, “Winter Magic”, “Mini Berries”; sentiment - Pink Gem Designs;
Media: Tim Holtz Distress Oxide inks - Chipped Sapphire, Villainous Potion, Picked Raspberry, Kitsch Flamingo, Stormy Sky; Versafine ink - Onyx Black; Versafine Clair - Twilight, Morning Mist; Sakura Gelly Roll pen - Stardust;
Tools: Lavinia acetate masks - circles and hills.

O Christmas tree!!

Hi everyone,

I took my first ever delivery of Lavinia Christmas stamps last week - woo hoo !!, so now I’ve had my first opportunity to have a play.

I bought a selection of stamps, a few new ink pads and some embossing glitter inspired by the Lavinia Tutorial - Winter Trees, so I made a couple of cards inspired by that but with a few tweaks ... and here they are.

For my first card I kept it fairly simple, creating hills, moon and sky with distress oxides and paper masks, then splattered with water and stamped my trees. I edged the card with first and second generation stamped  fir branches using midnight blue glitter and white heat embossing, very similar to in Tracey’s tutorial except that I used snowflake tinsel white embossing powder. Also I couldn’t resist doing a bit of second generation stamping with my new “Spirit of  Christmas” sentiment .. not sure whether I like that but I’m happy to go with it. I edged the moon and snowdrifts with my new Gelly roll stardust pen, then a simple card mounting and a stamped / heat embossed sentiment and I was done.

Stamps: Lavinia “Small Fairy Fir Tree 2”, “Fern Branch” and “Spirit of Christmas”; sentiment - Pink Gem Designs;
Media: Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks - Stormy Sky, Tumbled Glass, Barn Door; Versafine Clair - Twilight; WOW embossing glitter - Midnight Dream; Heat It Up embossing powder - Snowflake Tinsel; Sakura gelly roll pen - Stardust.

For my second card I proceeded along similar lines but used a different stamp for my focal tree, then masked off the trunk of the small fairy fir tree to create smaller trees in the foreground and background using 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation stamping to create some depth. I’m pleased with that element of versatility in the stamp. I also introduced my new teeny stars stamp in the sky, and this time I stamped and heat embossed my sentiment on separate card then mounted on foam tape. In case you’re wondering … yes that was to cover up a sentiment stamped directly onto the main panel where I tried a different colour embossing powder and didn’t like it!!

Stamps: Lavinia “Fir Tree 1”, “Small Fairy Fir Tree 2”, “Fern Branch” and “Stars 1 Mini”;  sentiment - Pink Gem Designs;
Media: Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks - Stormy Sky, Tumbled Glass; Versafine Clair - Twilight; WOW embossing glitter - Midnight Dream; Heat It Up embossing powder - Snowflake Tinsel; Sakura Gelly roll pen - Stardust.

Challenges I would like to enter:

Classic Design Challenge (November) - Anything Goes (5th entry)
C.R.A.F.T. #617 - Christmas (2nd entry)
Crafty Calendar (November) - Anything Goes (3rd entry)

Simon Says (Monday) - Trees - DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT
Stamping Sensations (November) - Christmas (2nd entry)

That’s all for today, but I think there will be plenty more where these came from! With each new card I will be trying the odd new colour combo or technique, so watch out for some experiments which may or may not turn out well!

Take care, and thanks for visiting

Allsorts Challenge #649

Good morning everyone … It’s Saturday so it's time for another weekly Allsorts Challenge. This week Tracy has chosen the theme and it is

From Boys to Men

We have 2 more brilliant prizes on offer this week:

 Firstly, Craft Stash

are offering this lovely Woodware stamp and sentiment set

and secondly, Ruth Hamilton Design

is offering 3 images of the winner's choice.

Here's my card for this week.

A couple of weeks ago I was in Derbyshire for the weekend, and  I visited the Crafter’s Companion Shop in Chesterfield during their 16th birthday week celebrations. The primary purpose of my visit was to get some cardstock and other craft basics, but while I was there I noticed they had some shelves of special "birthday bundles",  so I treated myself to one consisting of 3 stamp and stencil sets .. effectively less than half price - nice! A great way to increase my stock of basic stencil designs which was starting from a zero base as I never used them until recently 😀.

This card was made using the stencils in the “It’s Time” set. Firstly I created a smooshed background with Distress Ink and Distress Oxide plus a matching smaller panel. I stencilled the hessian design using the same inks, then stencilled the clocks using Black Soot DO. I stencilled the largest clock onto the smaller inked panel using Versamark and embossed it with detail white embossing powder, then cut out and mounted on foam pads. I also added a teeny bit af 2nd generation text stamping, though that is hardly visible!  I stamped and embossed my sentiments and mounted on foam tape, and finished by blending Black Soot DO around the card edges and spattering the design lightly with my new gold acrylic paint.

Here’s a tip for anyone in the UK who would like to use acrylic paint just for spattering so doesn’t need a lot  - I bought a pack of 4 mini tubes of metallic colours (gold, silver, copper, bronze) from WH Smith for just £2.49 😀

I noticed afterwards that the embossing on my sentiments was a bit untidy ... I think I got distracted as I had a small embossing powder spillage!  So my story is that it's all part of the grungy vibe!!

Stamps: background text - Woodware “Additions”; sentiments - Uniko “Birthday Sentiments”;
Media: Tim Holtz DI (Dusty Concord) and DO (Chipped Sapphire, Black Soot); WH Smith gold acrylic paint;
Tools: stencils from Crafter’s Companion stamp and stencil set  “It’s Time”.

Challenges I would like to enter:

Crafty Creations #427 - Anything Goes
Creative Fingers #218 Anything Goes
NBUS #32 Use Never before Used Schtuff

By the Light of the Christmas Moon

Well, November is here so the time has come when the Christmas card stakes are starting to get higher ... having only got back into cardmaking this summer I didn't exactly have a head start,  but am determined to start making some progress.

Here is a card I made to experiment with Distress Oxide backgrounds for the sky and moon ... I have been watching a few online tutorials on this topic, and who knew there are so many different ways to get the moon in the sky?

First I created my sky by using a home made acetate moon mask and sponging around it with DO's, working outwards from dark to light. Then I softened the edges by masking outside the moon and gently sponging inside the moon circle, added a couple of wispy "clouds" by sponging against a torn piece of paper, and spattered with water to add some texture. I then created my landscape by also sponging using torn paper - but this time I used Versamagic chalk ink as I don't have a colour of DO that would give a sufficiently soft effect (yet!!). I stamped my tree and some winter berry-like foliage in the corner to break up the space, sponged round the edges with DO to "frame" the scene, and finished with my sentiment. I mounted the finished panel on charcoal glitter card, and lastly I highlighted the moon, tree and sky with a Sakura silver sparkly pen ... I thought I had a white sparkly one or a clear glue pen to give a white glitter effect but they seem to have disappeared, so I will have to sort that out as a priority!

Looking at the finished project I would say I'm not entirely happy with the shape of the hills and the tree doesn't quite look "grounded",  but overall I am still pleased with this first landscape attempt and will be making a lot more cards along these lines.

Stamps: tree - Penny Black "Before the Snow" (3993K); foliage - "Summer Meadow" set free with craft magazine; sentiment - Wild Rose Studio;
Media: SkyTim Holtz Distress Oxide inks (Chipped Sapphire, Salty Ocean, Tumbled Glass, Black Soot); hills - Versamagic chalk ink; Sakura silver gelly roll stardust pen.

Allsorts Challenge #647

Hi everyone,

It's Saturday so it's time for another weekly Allsorts Challenge. This week Mervi has chosen the theme and it is

Anything Goes with option - Vintage

This week we again have 2 fab prizes for you:

Firstly

Indigo Blu - Rose Blush stamp

Secondly

Ruth Hamilton Design - 3 images of winner's choice.

Here's my card for this week.

The starting point was this large vintage style clear stamp I unearthed in my stamp box … I have had it for years and never inked it before.  In fact the stamp is so big it wasn’t appropriate for my usual 6 inch square card, so unusually for me I cut a 7” * 5” card base. I created  a smooshed background on watercolour paper with a mix of distress inks and distress oxides, then stamped my image with Vintage Photo DI and embossed with clear powder. I coloured the flower and leaves with distress oxide ink pads, mixing colours on my craft mat to produce shades that would work with my background and also with my DP; then I added a little background stencilling. I distressed the edges of the finished image panel with my distressing tool and a bit more sponged DI, and mounted on papers that had had the edges deckle cut and had some frantage shabby embossing enamel applied here and there and heat set. I used the most vintage looking ribbon I could find in my stash .. a beautiful velvet ribbon edged with lace, and added a few pearls and a sentiment which seemed to be a very similar font to the background text on my stamp.

Stamps: LotV Set 53 - Vintage backgrounds; Woodware Tiny Sentiments;
Media: Tim Holtz Distress Inks and Distress Oxide inks; Stampendous Frantage Shabby White embossing enamel;
Tools: Darkroom Door stencil - “Diamonds”;
Papers, pearls and velvet ribbon/lace from my stash.

Dream, Love, Live

Today I have something a bit different to share with you. I have been wanting to experiment some more with my new Distress Oxides and also have a few new stamps, one of which is a background set which includes a complete alphabet; so I decided to make a bookmark. Bizarrely I haven’t ever made one before as far as I can remember.

I created a “smoosh” background on watercolour paper using 4 colours of DO ink, then stamped my focal flowers using Versafine Onyx and embossed with clear powder. I stamped the alphabet and grungy text using dark grey ink and embossed, and then stencilled one corner with Versamark and embossed with white detail powder. Finally I stamped, embossed and affixed my sentiments, affixed the panel to black card, then punched a hole which I strengthened with a die cut and tied with ribbon.

The main challenge with this was that I don’t have a normal size single hole punch, but I do have a long reach punch which makes a small hole … so I punched a cluster of holes which I then covered with the hole protector die cut 😀

Stamps: Stampendous “Agapanthus Cluster”; alphabet and grungy text - Woodware “Additions”; sentiments - unknown;
Media: Tim Holtz Distress Oxide inks;
Tools: Darkroom Door stencil - “Diamonds”; Magnolia Doohickey Vintage Tilda tag (tag hole protector).

Challenges I would like to enter:

As You Like It - Favourite Non-card Project and why
(I have made a book mark which is my only non-card project for years, and it was my favourite choice as it enables me to practice my inky backgrounds, and I can easily gift bookmarks as stocking fillers at Christmas)

Creatalicious #221 - Anything Goes with option of black and purple
( I have used black and a little bit of lilac)
Creative Moments #224 - Anything Goes (3rd entry)

(Mine is my Tumbled Glass DO,  stencil and alphabet stamp)
Retro Rubber #169 Anything Goes (2nd entry)

I actually made this yesterday ... but the weather is so awful today i think I may well stay in and have another craft session this afternoon! Thanks very much for visiting today.
Hugs,
