Moonlit Stag

Hi everyone, today I’d like to share a make which I hope is the start of a big push on Christmas cards - extremely necessary given that before today I had made a grand total of … 4! ☺️

I have recently taken delivery of a li’l order from Lavinia, which included the lovely stag that I’m hoping to use on a few Christmas cards this year, plus the large fir tree that I had been wanting to complement my other Lavinia firs.

I cut a square of white stamping card, and used a large circle mask and torn paper to create a moon and hills with blended Distress Oxide inks. I stamped the stag in black standing on top of the hill, then stamped the fairy fir on the right followed by some red pines using 1st and 2nd generation stamping, all in blue. On the left I stamped a series of fir branches using Versamark, and heat embossed alternately using blue and snowflake embossing glitter. I highlighted the scene with a clear Sakura Stardust pen and also shaded the stag with white pastel pencil then used a black fineliner to add facial features. I definitely think I need more practice and/or some tuition in shading silhouette animals, but you have to start somewhere! I added some sparkle to the snowdrifts with a Spectrum Noir sparkle pen, then added snowflakes with white Posca pen and gel pen. Finally I stamped the sentiment then matted the finished panel onto dark blue and then silver mirri card and a 7” square card blank.

This is another very sparkly card, so here’s an angled picture.

Stamps: Lavinia Stag, Fairy Fir Tree, Red Pine (small), Fir Branch; Uniko Christmas Wishes (sentiment);
Media: Tim Holtz Distress Oxide inks (Stormy Sky, Chipped Sapphire); Versafine Clair (Nocturne, Medieval Blue); Versamark; Wow Embossing glitter (Midnight Dream); Heat It Up Snowflake Tinsel embossing powder; Sakura Stardust pen (clear); Spectrum Noit sparkle pen (clear); white gel pen; white Posca pen;
Tools: Lavinia circle masks.

This is outstanding! The stag is so majestic and looks like he's on night watchman duty! Maybe on the lookout for his distant cousin Rudolph!!! The sparkles add the look of glistening moonlight reflecting on the snow. The layered stamping is fabulous! Thanks for linking to FarmQuest Country Christmas #1!! Your card is just what we're looking for! --Becca

What a beautiful scene you've created. The generational stamping was a clever idea to add the illusion of depth and dimension to the trees. Thanks for joining us at Happy Little Stampers ~ Christmas Challenge.
